I write regarding your article ‘Jackson: “Costs management here to stay”’.

It never ceases to amaze me how manifestly out of touch some of the judiciary seem to be.

Lords justices Jackson and Dyson are claiming that costs management has been a success when it has caused a vast backlog of cases to be dealt with in the courts and huge extra cost to litigants. There has been no appreciable benefit, save perhaps the wholly undesirable one of reducing recoverability for successful litigants and thus undermining the value of litigation to those seeking justice.

It is quite incredible to see senior members of the judiciary lauding these ‘achievements’ as a success.
