If current trends continue, the number of people affected by hearing loss in the UK will rise from 10 million to 14.5 million by 2031. Action on Hearing Loss (RNID) is meeting this immense challenge with a commitment to support, action and cure:

Support:
• Offering independent information and advice through leaflets, our website and freephone helplines.
• Developing and testing new technology.
• Giving face-to-face help on how to get the best from hearing aids.
• Providing access to services such as sign language interpreters to help deaf and hearing people communicate with each other.
• Offering equipment to make life easier, such as flashing smoke alarms and doorbells.
Action:
• Offering hearing checks by telephone, online, iPhone and in local communities – already used by 850,000 people.
• Lobbying for a national screening service for everyone over 65 so they can take early action if their hearing starts to deteriorate.
• Campaigning to challenge stigma, uphold rights and convince people of all ages to value and protect their hearing. Our Don’t Lose The Music campaign is reaching thousands of young people.
Cure:
• Funding biomedical research. Recent scientific breakthroughs funded by Action on Hearing Loss could one day lead to treatments that restore natural hearing. A gift in your will could help us achieve our ultimate goal – a cure for deafness and tinnitus.
