You can change the world for animals

For 34 years, Animal Aid has been investigating and campaigning against animal cruelty – and we get results

  • Animal Aid filmed undercover in nine UK slaughterhouses and revealed shocking illegal cruelty. We launched a high-profile campaign, and persuaded all the major supermarket chains to insist all their suppliers fit CCTV cameras in their
slaughterhouses, and that they allow independent monitoring of the footage.

Established in 1860, Battersea Dogs & Cats Home is a charity that aims never to turn away a dog or cat in need of our help. We reunite lost dogs and cats with their owners; when we can’t do this, we care for them until new homes can be found for them; and we educate the public about responsible pet ownership. To bring cats on to an equal ‘paw’ with the dogs, we changed our name to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in June 2005.

Founded in 2003 by Jane Howorth, The British Hen Welfare Trust is the only national charity in the UK committed to hen welfare. The charity re-homes ex commercial hens, saving tens of thousands from slaughter each year. It also works to educate the public about making a difference to hen welfare by opting for free range eggs, and encourages support for the British egg industry.
Its ultimate aim is to see consumers and food manufacturers buying only UK produced free range eggs, resulting in a strong British egg industry where all commercial laying hens enjoy a good quality life.

The Cat Action Trust consists of a national network of branches working to save feral cats from a life of hunger, hardship, and abuse. Feral cats are ordinary domestic cats living wild because they have been lost or abandoned. And they multiply. Kittens grow up without contact with humans and are therefore ‘feral’ i.e. living without contact with humans, and terrified when they do encounter them. They form colonies wherever they can find food – the grounds of hospitals and other institutions, farms, disused buildings: they are the inhabitants of dereliction. The traditional answer to this is for a pest control firm to trap and kill the whole colony – leaving a vacuum which will soon be refilled.

The Trust supports the Veterinary School at the University of Bristol through funding for equipment and clinical facilities for the treatment and hospitalisation of animals. Veterinary science and skills are advancing at the same breakneck speed as medical science but are much more complex, encompassing as they do smaller companion animals, high value large animals such as blood stock and rare breeds and the exotic creatures and stranger species that many of our students encounter both at home and, increasingly, overseas. The most up-to-date equipment needed for new advanced techniques is vital but expensive and facilities for animals undergoing such treatment must be superlative.

The World Pheasant Association is a UK registered charity dedicated to promoting biodiversity conservation by ensuring the survival of pheasants and related birds (the Galliformes), which are the most important group to humans globally. The group includes the wild ancestors of chickens and turkeys as well as birds such as the Indian peafowl, which have huge cultural significance across Asia. Through our concern for these species, we work to maintain their natural habitats and the cultural values and livelihoods of communities that depend on them.

We’re changing things for the better.

The environment is in crisis. But we remain positive.

WWF is the world’s leading independent conservation organisation. And we’re tackling the most serious conservation challenges facing the planet, building a future where people and nature thrive together.

That’s why we’re passionate about sharing the planet’s resources more sustainably, taking action on climate change and protecting endangered wildlife.

Gifts in wills are essential for our vision of a world worth living in for the future
