The BVA Animal Welfare Foundation (BVA AWF) was established in 1984 by the British Veterinary Association as the veterinary profession’s own animal welfare charity.

Through veterinary science, education and debate, the BVA AWF seeks improve the welfare of all animals. The involvement of veterinary surgeons as trustees makes it uniquely effective in finding practical solutions to animal welfare problems.

BVA AWF supports a range of research projects that will have practical and positive effects on raising standards in animal welfare. The Foundation also produces a range of educational resources, including a popular range of pet care leaflets that aim to promote responsible pet ownership.

Knowledge sharing through seminars and educational activities for veterinary students and the wider veterinary profession are also key aspects of the Foundation’s work.

Funded entirely by voluntary contributions, the Foundation relies on the support and generosity of the public to continue its practical and professional approach to improving animal welfare.
