CARE is one of the top three global development agencies. We fight poverty and injustice in 70 countries around the world. Our mission is to create lasting change in the poorest communities, helping millions of people each year to find routes out of poverty.

We tackle the deep-seated root causes of poverty, not just its consequences, for example enabling farmers to grow more food or providing grants and loans to help people start small businesses.

CARE makes a long-term commitment to the communities it works with, staying with them until the job gets done. We recognise that many of the most challenging and complex issues we are dealing with, like HIV and AIDS or conflict, do not have quick fix solutions. Determination, long-term commitment and a passionate belief in the dignity of all people are the hallmarks of CARE’s approach.

CARE is also recognised for its rapid response to emergencies. When disaster strikes, we make sure that aid gets to where it is needed most. We can do this because we’ve often been working in countries for many years. And we remain with communities to help them rebuild their lives long after the cameras have gone.
