CORDA was founded in 1976 to support clinical research into the prevention of heart disease and stroke using non-surgical methods.

CORDA funded the world’s fi rst cardiovascular magnetic resonance scanner at London’s Royal Brompton Hospital. Cardiovascular magnetic imaging (CMR) does not involve potentially harmful x-rays. It provides the most powerful pictures of the body without using radiation.

As a result CORDA has enabled major advances to be made in the understanding of the causes and development of heart disease and stroke. CORDA has also provided vital funding for the development of an ultrasound technique used by researchers at Great Ormond Street Hospital to evaluate the onset of cardiovascular disease in children.
