If current trends continue, the number of people affected by hearing loss in the UK will rise from 10 million to 14.5 million by 2031. Action on Hearing Loss (RNID) is meeting this immense challenge with a commitment to support, action and cure:

Support:
• Offering independent information and advice through leaflets, our website and freephone helplines.
• Developing and testing new technology.
• Giving face-to-face help on how to get the best from hearing aids.

Tinnitus is the name given to the condition of noises 'in the ears' and/or 'in the head' with no external source. 10% of the UK adult population has tinnitus, and currently there is no cure. Many people with tinnitus are told they will have to ‘learn to live with it.’ We don’t believe this is acceptable – or true.

In the UK there are nine million deaf or hard of hearing people. Deafness is a devastating disability which has the power to make the simplest attempt to communicate a huge struggle. More than 90% of deaf children are from families with no first-hand experience of deafness and many have not even met a deaf person.
