Around 4,000 people get mouth cancer each year, and half will die from it. This is more than the number that die from cervical cancer or melanoma, and 80% of people could have been saved by earlier detection. Despite this, facial cancer research receives much less funding than other types. The FSRF aims to raise public awareness of facial diseases and disorders, and attract long overdue funding for research.

• Somebody you know may be one of the 4,000 patients every year who develop mouth cancer in the UK.
• Somebody you know may be one of the 125,000 young people who sustain serious facial injuries every year in the UK.
• Somebody you know may be one of the 15,000 people who receive corrective jaw surgery for facial disfigurement.

TThe Facial Surgery Research Foundation - Saving Faces, founded by Iain Hutchison, oral and maxillofacial surgeon at St Bartholomew's Hospital, London, is the first UK charity devoted to research into all aspects of disorders affecting the face; mouth cancer, facial deformity, jaw disproportion, injury and pain and the psychological impact on patients’ lives. The charity also carries out Educational Interventions for schoolchildren to discourage teenage smoking and binge-drinking and so reduce the number of oral cancers and facial injuries.
We are mainly funded by former patients and their families who strongly believe in the importance of our work. Leaving a gift in your will can really make a difference to thousands of people whose faces have been damaged.
