Friends of The Wisdom Hospice

The Wisdom Hospice came about as a result of the vision of a local resident, Molly Wisdom. Following a diagnosis of cancer, she was determined to raise funds for a local Hospice in the Medway and Swale area. During the next six months, Molly raised £2000 before her death.

The Friends of The Wisdom Hospice continued to raise funds to complete the project.

Over 900 patients and their families receive care and support from the Wisdom Hospice each year. A 15-bed in-patient unit and a Day Hospice are based on the site in Rochester. The Domiciliary nursing team make over 3000 visits to patients in their own homes in the course of a year. The Hospital Palliative Care Team provides support within local hospitals. The Social Work Team and Bereavement Counselling Service are available to patients and their families when required.

The Friends of the Wisdom Hospice currently meet approximately 30% of the total running costs of the Hospice. The Friends income is mainly derived from personal donations and legacies. Each day the Friends of the Wisdom Hospice needs to raise more than £1800 to continue this level of support.

During 2003 The Friends of the Wisdom Hospice also funded a £1.3m extension and refurbishment project at the Hospice.
