Founded in 1959, the Greek Animal Welfare Fund (GAWF) strives to improve the welfare of all animals in Greece.

Our remit is wide and includes helping street cats and dogs through a dedicated neutering programme alongside a drive to promote responsible pet ownership; working with animal welfare groups throughout Greece by providing assistance and support; offering hundreds of youngsters the animal welfare message through our professionally designed education programme; caring for horses, donkeys and mules including on-site training of owners, welfare groups and veterinarians in farriery, dentistry and general care in order to improve the lives of working equines countrywide and campaigning, by lobbying the Greek Parliament for changes in animal welfare legislation.
In February 2012, after a long-running campaign, GAWF achieved a ban on the use of both wild and domestic animals in circuses – proving our hard work and dedication really does make a difference to the animals.

In addition to our work above, GAWF is on hand to help if visitors or residents of Greece find an animal in urgent need of help. Where possible GAWF will put people in touch with our local animal welfare contacts or try our best to help in another way.

GAWF believes in working within Greece to find practical and sustainable solutions to animal welfare problems. Please see our website for more information and consider leaving a legacy for the animals in Greece. Thank you.
