The Anglo-Italian Society for the Protection of Animals is a British-based charity that raises funds worldwide to help animal welfare organisations in Italy.

The Society was founded in 1952, following the death of the animal welfare pioneer, Leonard Hawksley. Our aim is to improve conditions for many wild and domestic animals which is so desperately needed.

Africa’s health in Africa’s hands

AVERT is an international HIV and AIDS charity based in the UK, which is working to combat HIV and AIDS worldwide. AVERT supports HIV projects in the areas of the world that have been most severely affected by the epidemic including many countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

Leaving a legacy or bequest to The Donkey Sanctuary can help reach thousands of working donkeys overseas, an enormous task requiring considerable funding.

The charity relies entirely on donations to support major programmes in five core countries, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Kenya and Mexico, and many other countries through a small grants programme.

Emunah provides successful solutions to the ever-changing needs of Israel's most deprived and vulnerable children. Emunah offers an immediate response to Israeli children at risk from the physical, mental and sexual abuse many face on a daily basis. Emunah’s work spans a whole range of social welfare projects: residential homes; day care centres; high schools; counselling centres and community centres.

Founded by Mother Mary Garson in 1954, for the care of the old, sick and frail. We are now responsible for running 25 homes in the UK and abroad. In England we provide sheltered accommodation, residential homes, a geriatric nursing unit and holiday care. The family consists of the Sisters, their lay helpers and the aged, sick and poor of all religions (or of none). The criterion is need. In India, Sri Lanka and Africa we run a children’s home, village clinics, hospitals, old people’s homes, kindergarten and primary school, farms, craft training centres and a school for Nursing.

Today, many of the Gurkhas who helped fight for our freedom in World War Two and beyond desperately need our help. Without a monthly ‘welfare pension’ from the Gurkha Welfare Trust, many of these brave old soldiers and their dependants would be destitute.

Interact Worldwide works in East Africa, India and Pakistan helping vulnerable, stigmatised and hard to reach communities escape a life of poor sexual and reproductive health that exacerbates poverty and inequality.

Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of preventable blindness in the UK. Around 2% of people over the age of 40 suffer from glaucoma. Unfortunately, many people are unaware of the risk of glaucoma, which can often have no symptoms. Up to one in 50 people are losing sight every day as a result of the condition.

Jewish Child’s Day helps Jewish children in need of special care in the United Kingdom, Europe, Israel and throughout the world. This includes children who are neglected or abused, blind or deaf or mentally or physically disabled.

The Congregation of the Little Sisters of the Poor is a religious order founded in France in 1839. The Sisters came to England in 1851 and a rapid expansion took place in towns and cities through the Country. Today the English Province comprises Homes in London, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Preston, Sunderland and Jersey, Channel Islands.

In war or disaster, the skilled medical expertise of surgeons, doctors, nurses and anaesthetists literally makes the difference between life and death. Every year British and Irish medical and logistics specialists volunteer their time and expertise to work with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).

Missio is the official support organisation for the overseas mission of the Catholic Church. Missio is present where there is turmoil, poverty and uncertainty, where the Church is new, young or poor. Missio enables local people to build their Church infrastructure; parishes, priests, Mass and the Sacraments. The vital humanitarian and development work that the Church does; fighting poverty, disease and injustice is possible because the local Church has been built up and is able to respond.

N.E.D.D.I. is established to offer care and safety to donkeys (and to a lesser degree ponies) within Britain and Europe at risk from neglect, cruelty or mal-treatment. We offer rescue to such animals from undesirable situations, with the financial and practical constraints prevailing at the time, whilst working at all times to try to change attitudes and to educate donkey owners to better practices.

Energy – a basic requirement for economic, health and social development
More than 1.4 billion people worldwide cannot access electricity. Indoor air pollution from fuel used for lighting and heating (paraffin, wood, grass, animal dung or charcoal) is a major cause of respiratory disease and kills nearly 2 million people every year – mainly women and children. Lack of access to energy hinders economic activity, and affects all aspects of development – it is a significant barrier to good education, better health and finding a way out of poverty for the world’s poorest people.
