Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust
Founded in 1967, Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust Limited is a registered charity with the twin aims of education and heritage conservation.
The Trust cares for 36 scheduled monuments and listed buildings within the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site and operates 10 museums which collectively tell the story of the Birthplace of the Industrial Revolution.
The Trust is one of the largest independent museums in the world and it has one of the biggest education programmes. More than 560,000 people visit the Museum each year, 70,000 of whom are school children. It aims to conserve, maintain and interpret the remarkable monuments to Britain’s industrial history that survive in the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site. All of the Museum collections have been Designated of national importance and they include Coalbrookdale ironwork and engines, porcelain, social history, industrial art, archives, tiles and ceramics.
As a pioneer of the interpretation of historic buildings and collections in context, with the use of costumed demonstrators, it has been imitated in the UK and overseas. The Museum has achieved national and international recognition winning many awards during its short history including Museum of the Year, European Museum of the Year and it was shortlisted for the Art Fund Prize 2010.
Through the hard work of professional staff and volunteers, visitors’ experiences are enriched through innovative educational workshops, live demonstrations and hands-on activities.
Please help to preserve our national heritage for generations to come by leaving the Trust a gift in your Will.
