Right now, the lives of over three million people in the UK are threatened by chronic kidney disease. No one knows who or when kidney disease may strike next. It could be any one of us, a loved one or a friend, and can mean a lifetime of dialysis or a transplant.

Kidney Research UK is the leading national charity dedicated to funding research into the prevention, treatment and management of kidney disease. As well as funding vital research, we are dedicated to improving patient care and raising public awareness of kidney-related issues. Our patient information service aims to empower kidney patients, their families and carers and provides advice and literature on how best to deal with each type of renal disease.

Over 70% of Kidney Research UK’s expenditure goes directly into funding research and with our help, dialysis and transplantation have become ever more effective forms of treatment for people with established renal failure.

However, major problems still remain. As the number of people with kidney disease soars, our work, which relies mainly on donations from the general public, becomes more essential than ever.
