LATCH - Welsh Children's Cancer Charity
LATCH is a voluntary organisation set up to support the children in Wales receiving treatment for cancer and leukaemia and their families.
Having a child diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia comes as a devastating blow. Faced with a period of months and sometimes years of gruelling treatment and an uncertain future, the related emotional ups and downs are often referred to by families as like “being on a rollercoaster”
LATCH understands the financial and emotional burden faced by families caring for a sick child as well as dealing with the logistics of family life. Family accommodation is provided in the hospital, free of charge, to keep families together during their child’s stay.
LATCH funds activities and treats to help boost morale and keep the children occupied during treatment. When in hospital, children especially miss the stimulation and structure of their normal daily lives.
LATCH funds specialist medical equipment for the Paediatric Oncology Unit at the Children’s Hospital for Wales as well as a range of clinical projects aimed at making the lives of children more comfortable on the wards, at home and in the community.
LATCH relies solely on donations from the general public to ensure the children and their families are offered support when they need it most.
