Martin House Hospice for Children
Martin House opened in 1987 to provide family-led care for children and young people with life limiting conditions. We share with families the care of their child and offer respite care, symptom control, emergency and terminal care at Martin House or in the family home. Care is offered to any family with a child or children with a life threatening illness. We welcome all the family, giving them a break together or time to themselves in a comfortable home from home atmosphere. It is a place of love and understanding, of fun, laughter and friendship – where parents can have a full night’s sleep and recharge their batteries.
The facilities we offer at Martin House are nine bedrooms for young children and an additional six bedrooms in the purpose-built Teenage Unit. There are eight family rooms for parents and siblings, spacious sitting rooms and social areas, playroom, multi-sensory room, Jacuzzi, library and music room.
We are currently supporting families of around 400 children from the Yorkshire region and over 130 bereaved families receive regular support from our care team. Although the care we provide is free to families, our revenue costs have risen to £4m per annum. We receive very little statutory funding and rely almost entirely on charitable donations to enable us to continue to provide the much-needed care the children and young people and their families deserve.
We would be grateful if you would remember Martin House when you make your will. Your support really would make a difference – thank you.
