CSERT was registered by the family of Charles Sykes BSc, who died, aged 28 in 1996, from an epileptic seizure. Charles started with epilepsy at the age of three and his seizures proved difficult to control. His death was one of approximately 1,000 that occur every year in England* from unexplained causes related to epilepsy. At least one third of these are young people.
