CORDA was set up in 1976 with the very specific aim of funding research and extending areas of knowledge that would lead to the early detection of atherosclerosis, the disease which, by narrowing and blocking vital arteries, leads to heart attacks and strokes and is the most common cause of death in the UK and in many other parts of the world.

Imagine a local hospital where all the doctors and nurses are trained in the very latest techniques and have the state of the art equipment to match; where the non-medical needs of patients are treated with equal importance to their medical needs; where the comfort of the patients and their loved ones can be relied on to be as important as the medical care. Imagine if this local hospital was available to all who needed it.
This is the dream of the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust Charity.

HEART UK – The Cholesterol Charity – is passionate about preventing premature deaths caused by raised cholesterol and cardiovascular disease, especially inherited high cholesterol (IHC), a condition called Familial Hypercholesterolemia.

Chairman: AJG (Tony) Berry MBE. The North Staffs Heart Committee was founded in 1979 with objective of improving research, diagnosis, treatment and welfare of cardiac patients residing in North Staffordshire or being treated at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire. The charity is administered voluntarily by five trustees supported by three Consultant cardiologists and a Consultant cardiothoracic surgeon.

Heart disease is the UK’s biggest killer and lung disease incapacitates one person in seven. Royal Brompton & Harefield hospitals are world-renowned leaders in the research and treatment of heart and lung disease, providing specialist services for patients of all ages from across the country.
