Parkinson’s is a progressive, neurological disorder and occurs when the chemical messenger responsible for movement stops being produced in the brain. Medication and other treatments mean that many people with Parkinson’s can continue to lead an active life but others can have their quality of life affected dramatically. Parkinson’s UK is the UK’s only organisation working exclusively for people affected by Parkinson’s and has over 30,000 members and more than 330 local branches and support groups throughout the UK.

It helps people with Parkinson’s, their carers and families by providing vital support, advice and information, and funds research into the cause, cure and prevention of Parkinson’s and improvements in available treatments.

Parkinson’s runs a dedicated freephone helpline (0808 800 0303) staffed by specialist Nurses which offers advice and support to anyone affected by the condition and also produces a wide range of information on all aspects of living with Parkinson’s, including treatments for the condition, welfare and benefits advice and living with Parkinson’s at a younger age.

Parkinsons work is funded by donations and fundraising events with over half of our income coming from legacies. An informative Will Making Guide is available, free of charge, to anyone who is interested in leaving a legacy.
