The Lake District Calvert Trust provides residential outdoor activity courses for people of all ages with physical, sensory and learning disabilities. The mission of the Trust is to challenge disability through the adventure and achievement of outdoor activities, and to make the outstanding countryside of Cumbria truly accessible to all.

Our aim is to provide pioneering technical adaptations, and intensive, instructor-led activity programmes including climbing, abseiling, canoeing, kayaking, dinghy sailing, off-shore sailing, horse riding/trap driving, archery, orienteering, ghyll scrambling, land yachting, hand cycling and paragliding. Combined, these provide an environment that aims to educate, challenge, motivate, engender confidence in ability, promote independence, and foster inclusion and self-belief in those with even the most severe, complex disabilities.

All activity instructors are highly qualified, hold National Governing Body Awards, and undertake years of specialist training in working with people with disabilities. The Trust is a not for profit organisation that constantly strives to improve its equipment, activities and facilities so that all visitors, young and old alike, are given the very best possible ‘Calvert Experience’ in the beautiful scenery of the Lake District National Park.

The Lake District Calvert Trust believes in pushing the boundaries of what those living with a disability can accomplish, and in so doing it provides a unique and life-changing experience for those who are encouraged to believe that – it’s what you CAN do that counts!
