Silvanus Trust, The

The Silvanus Trust, a woodland charity, has been involved in forestry and woodland in the South West for over twenty five years. We embrace a holistic view of forestry and work extensively in education, social forestry, environmental woodland management and the forestry and timber industries, seeking always to foster the links between people and woodlands and woodland products.

We:
• Provide information, support, advice, education and training
• Involve and inspire communities to manage and value trees and woodland
• Offer opportunities for skills development, training, research projects and work placements
• Influence policy concerning sustainable and viable woodlands
• Create a sustainable woodland economy
• Research and promote best practice
• Value and celebrate trees and wood

Working with communities and businesses we seek to increase the potential of woodland to support greater rural economic activity and well-being by facilitating sound woodland management, community involvement in woodland activities, and by marketing local wood products, increasing the use of timber, and promoting wood as a replacement for fossil fuels and as a sustainable material.
Growing trees and using timber is increasingly recognised as one of the most environmentally sustainable uses of land and as awareness of the environment and concern over climate change increases, the importance of our work has never been greater.
