Tree Council, The
Making trees matter to everyone
The Tree Council is a national charity which works to improve the environment in town and country by promoting the planting and conservation of trees throughout the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1974 to keep up the momentum of 1973’s National Tree Planting Year, with its campaign slogan of Plant a Tree in ’73.
It works towards:
- more trees, of the right kind, in the right places
- better care for all trees, of all ages
- inspiring effective action for trees.
The Tree Council is dedicated to inspiring, initiating and enabling effective action for trees. It champions trees through its popular annual initiatives – Seed Gathering Season, National Tree Week, the Tree Care Campaign and Walk in the Woods – to get more trees planted, cared for and enjoyed.
Its Tree Warden Scheme, launched in 1990, is a national force of 8.000 volunteers, committed to their communities’ trees, helping to protect them and to increase their number.
As well as campaigning on tree issues, The Tree Council organises tree conferences and offers planting grants for schools and community groups. It also publishes handbooks and other publications.
The Tree Council relies on donations and legacies to continue this vital work.
