A 150-year-old Manchester law firm has created an iPhone ‘accident app’ which it claims could revolutionise the personal injury claims process.

Croftons has released the iPhone app to help claimants gather accurate evidence and information after an accident at work or on the road, and provide easy access to personal injury lawyers.

The firm expects it to become an integral part of the way it handles personal injury claims in the future.

The app allows users to record the immediate details of an incident with photographs, words or recorded statements, and then send them to a lawyer to get a quick and informed assessment of the claim.

Geolocation technology automatically pin-points the location of the incident, the camera can take photos of the scene and any damage or injuries caused, while the voice recorder can log eyewitness accounts.

Users also get practical guidance, with on screen prompts, to help them collect all the relevant information.

The firm appointed digital agency 3 Sheep to develop the app, with support from a government-backed innovation scheme.

Croftons managing partner Simon Leighton said: ‘The accident app uses modern-day technology to deal with old issues around claims evidence. It is the perfect channel for data capture, because accidents tend to happen when you are on the move, and these days people tend not to move without their mobile phone.’

He added: ‘Traditional law firms like ourselves have got to redefine our offer and start communicating and interacting using twenty-first century tools. The accident app has been widely welcomed already by many of our clients, and I am convinced it’s the way forward.’

The app is available free from the Apple iTunes store. To download it visit the Croftons website.

Innovation in the making!

This is the definition of law firm strategy embracing innovation in 21st consumer thinking!
Its an excellent step, and I wish the firm all of the very best in its forward success.

Great idea I know that a

Great idea

I know that a software firm based at the Maxell site in Telford have developed quite a few i-phone apps for legal claims but mostly on the financial side.

Good to see a lww firm doing this on their own!!

A Little Jealous

I have to admit. If it is really as well integrated as this article suggests, and not too intrusive, this could be a really big winner. Simple, and a bit brilliant. I only wish I'd thought of it first.

I'm sure that any law firm

I'm sure that any law firm can get the same developed for themselves - it's not that expensive

Yes Im sure any law firm can

Yes Im sure any law firm can but I dont think its a question of ability or expense, its a question of being forward thinking, something that the majority of firms arent. Well done Croftons

Great..but will people actually use it?

While I applaud Croftons for embracing new technology (if it works like it says it does then i'm incredibly jealous), having a shiny new app means nothing if people don't download and use it.

I fear the hard work for them is just starting, and getting the message out about the app to the people that matter will be tough, nevermind getting them to actually remember to use it in the confusion after an accident.

Publicity like this for the app is great but is unlikely to be seen by the people who are actually going to want to claim whiplash injury compensation after an accident.

Wish them all the best though, as I love new technology and developing an app is far from cheap.

Well done

"Its a question of being forward thinking, something that the majority of firms arent. Well done Croftons".

Agreed. Good to see such innovative measures being taken with legal technology in the UK.

Best wishes
