The legal profession turned out in force to support what is an eagerly anticipated staple of theseason – the Legal Charities Garden Party, held on the North Lawn of Lincoln’s Inn, which raises money for benevolent associations, including the SBA The Solicitors’ Charity and confidential helpline LawCare.

Thanking attendees, Law Society president Andrew Caplen found time to relate a pleasant surprise from his year of presidential travels – the tendency of our US peers to imply their authorship of Magna Carta. And a subtle sartorial divide was on display among guests – with those headed to hear George Osborne’s Mansion House speech arriving in less-than-summery black.
