Microsoft to outsource general legal work to India

Software giant Microsoft will begin outsourcing general legal work to India after signing a deal with legal process outsourcing (LPO) company CPA Global. The news comes as CPA outlined plans to expand its Indian workforce from 600 to 1,000 by the end of 2011, and hinted at opening another outsourcing centre.
CPA said that it will be taking on ‘multi-jurisdictional legal research’ for Microsoft, but could not give further details, citing client confidentiality. Microsoft has outsourced intellectual property (IP) work to CPA since 2005, although no lawyers work on the IP team.
In June last year, Rio Tinto announced an outsourcing deal with CPA which the mining giant forecast would cut 20% from its annual legal spend. CPA lawyers review and draft contracts, undertake legal research and review documents on behalf of Rio Tinto. Leah Cooper, former managing attorney at Rio Tinto, joined CPA Global’s executive team this week. She will lead the strategy and development of CPA Global’s legal services outsourcing business.
CPA spokesman Venu Nair said that the south Indian cities of Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai are being considered as locations for a new CPA office.

Quit sending American jobs
Quit sending American jobs over seas! India can take care of themselves, put Americans back to work!
What do you call 2000 lawyers jobs down the drain?
A good start. We need more of this. If the lawyers, accountants and marketeers get burned, maybe it will finally bring it home to roost what outsourcing really means and just how much damage it has done to this country.
stop outsourcing abroad and at home
We need our elected representative to stop the use of H-1b and L-1 visas in Washington state and the country as a whole. It is a social crime to permit corporations to replace American citizens with low wage imports from India or to send that work abroad.
The big lie that there are not enough citizens to do the work has been thoroughly exposed for what it is, a deception to cover up corporate greed.
The middle class in the U.S. is being destroyed by this outsourcing and our elected officials in Washington, Senator Patti Murray and Maria Cantwell just look the other way so they can get campaign payoffs from Microsoft and the other big IT corporations.
Unless Patti Murray comes out publicly to oppose outsourcing and takes steps to oppose it she should not be re-elected.
And then they came for me...
This is how the destruction of our country has progressed.
First they let in all the un-washed masses to take the jobs our "entitlement class" wouldn't do. Then they outsourced the unskilled labor and then the skilled manufacturing labor. Next they outsourced the low lever service class labor (call centers). Meanwhile, all the professional labor looked the other way because it was not they losing their jobs.
But then, the computer programmers started losing their jobs and they started to wake up. Then the engineers started losing their jobs and started to wake up. All the while the Lawyers aided and abetted the corporations. Now, they too will lose their jobs.
For those who are left; Wall street bankers and Politicians, your jobs too can be outsourced. Who needs a Wall Street banker when all the money is in Beijing? And who needs politicians once the corporations own everything?
Welcome to the club.

The target you're hired to
The target you're hired to kill turns out to be you.
The crows have come home to roost
For years it was lawyers who helped companies out source and bring in more H1B. Now its them that are being outsourced. Most people would be shocked to know that a lot of so called American companies have just a few people in here and the rest of the work is done over seas. There is a absence of privacy laws in India. If someone over there steals all your information, it is a misdemeanor. In a short time soon there will be the mega rich and the mega poor with almost no middle class.
Now it's the lawyers turn..
Yep.... What goes around comes around. Like the posters here are saying, now that legal work is starting to get out sourced maybe someone will start doing something to protect jobs here at home. I would love to see HUGH penalties levied against ALL COMPANIES that send our jobs out of country to places that pay way, way blow our minimum wages. They should have to pay the difference of those slave labor wages in taxes here in the USA.
One other thought...
Maybe it's time to look at other computer products and programs than Microsofts. I'm sure there must be USA based companies that can provide us the same services MS does.
