The new president of the Law Society has pledged to promote the profession’s role at the ‘heart of society and commerce’, as she revealed plans for a new scheme to support conveyancers.

The conveyancing quality scheme, to be launched by the Law Society this autumn, will enable members of the scheme to show that their firm operates to a high standard.

Linda Lee (pictured) said: ‘I believe that the success of this scheme is vital to the future of the profession in the conveyancing market. It will ensure that firms of all sizes and types will be able to demonstrate the quality of the work they do to lenders, insurers and most importantly to the public.’

Lee, who is a clinical negligence and coronial law practitioner and was previously an in-house consultant for charity Action against Medical Accidents, took over from Robert Heslett as president last week.

She said work would continue on developing overseas markets for ‘our finest export - our legal services’.

Quality scheme

The other quality scheme being promoted is "Quality solicitors". Have you seen their website and shopping centre shops? QS adopt a modern marketing approach which presumably works. I am not sure about the logo on the web site (cartoon babe female in office suit) but presumably marketing experts have advised them the public can relate to such logos.

Does the President of the Law Society propose to adopy a modern marketing strategy or a more traditional one?

great move, but where's the value?

This is fantastic news for conveyancers and long overdue. Well done Linda! I've long wondered why the Law Society failed to offer accreditation schemes for conveyancing solicitors. Hopefully this will plug the gap.

However, we need to ensure that the measure has real teeth and delivers value for members. For instance, has the Law Society already spoken with lenders and got their assurances that conveyancers qualified under the new scheme will not be kicked off their panel in the coming years / months?
