Top-10 firm Herbert Smith has reported a 6% fall in annual profit per equity partner, to £840,000. Income rose 3% in 2011/12 to £480m. The figures emerged as the firm prepared to announce the result of a partner vote on a proposed merger with Australia’s Freehills, expected today (Thursday 28 June).

Ambush debate
Ambush marketing and the role of intellectual property will be the topic of the second Law Society free Public Debate 2012. The debate will be held at 6.30pm on Tuesday 3 July at Chancery Lane.

Coroner honoured
Aidan Cotter, solicitor and coroner for Birmingham and Solihull, was appointed OBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list for services to the bereaved.
