Congratulations to London firm Howard Kennedy on its latest innovative product. HK One is ‘a bespoke legal concierge service for wealthy individuals and their commercial interests’.

Obiter always associated the term ‘concierge’ with formidable guardians of Parisian appartements. However apparently there’s another meaning.

Emily Mailer, Howard Kennedy partner leading HK One, says concierge service covers traditional private client services, ‘but is also as likely to include managing a company’s or individual’s reputation, moving domestic and corporate staff around the world, protecting or maximising intellectual property assets, buying or investing in art and cultural property, or responding to alleged criminal activity’.

Blimey.

Obiter looks forward to a vigorous debate over whether ‘legal concierge’ should be a reserved activity under whatever lord chancellor Liz Truss cooks up to replace the Legal Services Act.
