HM Courts and Tribunals Service took a dim view last week of lawyers meeting to discuss action against legal aid cuts.  ‘We are not allowing lawyers to hold meetings on court premises to discuss how best to disrupt the work of the court,’ a spokesperson sniffily told the Gazette.

Colleagues at Norwich magistrates’ court were undaunted by their eviction from the court canteen. In the finest radical tradition, they congregated under the nearest tree. Perhaps to future generations the Norwich Plane will be as much a symbol of liberty and justice as the Ankerwycke Yew or the Charter Oak.
