International TMT firm Olswang has announced that David Chance and Dr Andreas Raffel will join its board as non-executive directors.

Their appointments to the board take effect today and are part of the firm’s new governance structure.

Chance (pictured) is chairman of Modern Times Group with pay and free TV operations in Scandinavia, eastern Europe, Russia and Africa, a non-executive director of PCCW, majority shareholder of Hong Kong Telecom, and chairman of its pay TV subsidiary, NOW TV.

He brings a range of board and management experience in the pay TV and telecoms industries. He was formerly deputy managing director of BSkyB Group Ltd and chairman of start-up DTT pay TV operator Top Up TV.

He has been a non-executive director of ITV plc, O2 plc and digital rights management group, Intertrust Technologies Inc.

Raffel, a senior financial services executive with 25 years’ board level experience, has been the executive vice-chairman of Rothschild since 2008, following a six-year appointment as CEO of Rothschild in Germany.

His track record includes advising businesses in Europe, US and Asia on strategic and financial matters across a wide range of industries, including in TMT and real estate.

He has extensive board and corporate governance experience and holds several other NED positions across the not-for-profit, education and healthcare industries.

Commenting on the appointments, Dirk Van Liedekerke, chairman of the Olswang board, said: ‘A successful business is a connected one and one which is open to contributions from outstanding members of the wider business community.

‘As Olswang grows and strengthens its TMT focus globally in a complex and ever evolving market environment, we can benefit enormously from respected professionals who can add strong industry knowledge and an outsider’s point of view at the same time.’

He added: ‘David and Andreas will help us to stay on track with our plans for growth, constructively challenge and contribute to our strategy, as well as support our operational leadership.

‘We look forward to working with them on making Olswang an even stronger player in technology, media and telecoms internationally.’
