@Jeffery Shaw - my experience is that not all lawyers are actively referring their clients elsewhere when unable to help the client themselves.
I have 16 years of managing this type of referral arrangement between law firms, ensuring that the firms who refer work are reassured that their client will be looked after.
We offer a written non-solicitation agreement, fee share is offered to those firms who would like it (and regardless of views on fee share/referral fees, the SRA does currently allow it) and we also support the firms in our network in in other ways.
There are other similar networks operating very successfully so this is not unique, but we do work hard to collaborate with the firms who are part of our network.
This is not a business model, just a fancy way of packaging something solicitors do already.
