CICRA: better lives for children with crohns and colitis.

CICRA was founded in 1978 by a group of parents to raise funds for peer reviewed medical research and support families of children and young people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the two main types of which are Crohn’s and Ulcerative colitis.

IBD is a lifelong, destructive illness that can appear at any time causing severe inflammation of the digestive tract. There has been a dramatic increase amongst children and young people, including babies.

Symptoms range from acute abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, bleeding and dramatic weight loss to mouth ulcers, painful joints and profound fatigue. Drugs used to treat these conditions help but do not cure and can have serious side effects. Surgery is sometimes the only option, necessitating the removal of all, or part of, the bowel.

We lead research into better treatments, support children and families with relevant information, work with health professionals to improve care and give children a voice to increase public understanding of Crohn’s and colitis. We believe that all children deserve a childhood unlimited by inflammatory bowel disease.

Your generosity can make a big difference to a small charity. Please contact us if you would like more information or see our website:
