Eyes are precious but two million people in the UK are currently living with a degree of sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives. As our population ages and becomes more susceptible to major sight loss triggers, such as diabetes and obesity, this number is projected to double to four million by 2050. Most of us would rather lose a limb than our sight and it is the sense we value most. Yet, less than 2% of all medical research funding is directed at eye disease.

National Eye Research Centre exists to redress this critical underfunding of eye research. We do not accept that sight loss with increasing age is inevitable but we need your help to invest in this vitally needed research.

We currently fund research into cures for some of the most debilitating eye conditions, such as: age-related macular degeneration (AMD), glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, uveitis, inherited retinal diseases, corneal graft rejection and children’s eye diseases.

National Eye Research Centre receives no statutory funding from HM Government and is dependent on the generosity of public donations, particularly those made in legacies. Please consider making a gift to National Eye Research Centre in your Will that will give hope to all those currently living with a diagnosis of impending blindness. Thank you.
