Registered Charity No: 1144528 (England & Wales).
For more than 90 years, the National Institute of Agricultural Botany (NIAB) has played a key role in supporting the development of improved crop varieties and transferring advances in plant science into practical agriculture.
Established as a charitable trust in 1919 under the motto ‘Better Seeds: Better Crops’, NIAB recognised the importance of seed quality and improved varieties in safeguarding food supplies following food shortages during the First World War.
Today, food security is again high on the agenda, fuelled by concerns over population growth and climate change. The UN predicts that we need to produce 50% more food by 2030 and once again, the world is turning to plant genetic resources for solutions.
With an expanding crop research programme and extensive experience in seed and variety evaluation, NIAB is uniquely placed to build on its heritage and help address the urgent global need to produce more food with reduced impact on the environment.
A gift in your Will, however large or small, will make a real difference to help strengthen NIAB’s scientific resources and support our vital work as an agricultural charity.
