Registered Charity No: 205846 (England & Wales).

The National Trust was founded in 1895 by three people committed to preserving our nation’s precious heritage and open spaces. More than 120 years later, these values are still at the heart of everything we do.

We strive to safeguard special places throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland and open them up for everyone to enjoy. We care for hundreds of historic houses, mills, castles and forts along with treasured artefacts, archaeological remains and one of the world’s largest art collections. We look after 780 miles of coastline and over 248,000 hectares of land. These irreplaceable landscapes include forests, woods, fens, beaches, farmland, moorland, islands and nature reserves.

When we take on a place, it’s forever. This is a privilege and a great responsibility, as it costs more than £130 million every year. We couldn’t do it without the gifts supporters leave us in their Wills.

Our conservation work has always gone hand-in-hand with public access. Any gift we receive makes a valuable contribution to our ongoing work to protect and open up special places to everyone; enabling future generations to escape the everyday and make memories to treasure forever.
