Registered Charity No: 213128 (England & Wales).

The Queen’s Nursing Institute is dedicated to supporting nursing care for people at home and in the community. Founded in 1887, we have supported generations of district and community nurses, setting standards, delivering training, influencing policy and supporting innovation in nursing practice.

A less well known part of our work is the help we give to district and community nurses when they find themselves in financial difficulties due to adverse life events, such as a marriage breakdown or serious illness. Last year we helped over 100 nurses who were going through just such difficulties. The financial and pastoral help we give changes lives and enables many nurses to return to work.

The QNI also offers support to retired Queen’s Nurses, who are socially isolated and housebound. Through our Keep in Touch programme, volunteers make a weekly phone call to elderly retired nurses, developing relationships founded on common understanding, interest and commitment to nursing. This has proved to be a valuable lifeline for many of the recipients.

We are a small charity that receives no regular Government funding. Legacies allow us to extend our work significantly. If you would like to find out how to make a donation or leave a legacy so that we can continue supporting the nurses who go out and help so many patients in the community, please contact us at or phone 020 7549 1400.
