Rambert is Britain’s oldest dance company, founded in 1926 by Dame Marie Rambert, a Polish-Jewish émigré who worked with Diaghilev, Stravinsky and the Ballet Russes. By giving the Company her name, Marie Rambert gave it her identity: her passion, indomitable devotion to her art, creative endeavour, revolutionary desire, encouragement of individuality and determination for her dancers to be the best.
Our story is of the story of British dance. Our beginnings heralded the birth of British ballet, one of the greatest artistic achievements of the 20th century. Passionate about the nurturing of talent, Marie Rambert produced the founding generation of British choreographers, among them Sir Frederick Ashton, Walter Gore, Antony Tudor, and more recently Christopher Bruce CBE.
Today we continue this tradition and passionately inspire audiences across the UK with exciting artistic collaborations. The Company produces four new dance works each year and we commission new music for dance, performed live by Rambert’s Orchestra. Our 22 dancers are award-winning, continuously recognised as amongst the world’s best, and our support for them with an Apprentice Dancer’s Scheme and a Choreographic Development Programme, coupled with a Music Fellowship for young composers, is unrivalled. Our dance archive is one of the most complete in the world and is used, together with our repertoire, by our education and community team to deliver first-class dance experiences for people of all ages and abilities throughout the UK.
Leaving a legacy for Rambert in your Will can make all the difference. Your gift will help us continue our work for generations to come and plays a vital part in sustaining the future of the Company. Thank you for your consideration.
