Carstairs Psychological Associates provide reports on the psychological aspects of civil and criminal cases, including personal injury and medical negligence, fitness to plead/stand trial, and family cases where there are child protection concerns.

Dr. Kari Carstairs is the practice director. She has an undergraduate psychology degree from the University of Oxford, prior to obtaining her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Widener University in 1991 for which she received a distinction for highest academic and clinical excellence. She returned to the UK to work for the National Health Service, a position she held up until 1998, following which she left the NHS for full time private practice.

Dr. Kari Carstairs is an associate fellow of the British Psychological Society, a fellow of the Society for Personality Assessment, a member of the Expert Witness Institute and President of the British Rorschach Society. Cardiff University/Bond Solon certified as an expert, she has been the author and co-author of many publications, and led teaching events, presentations and consultations for psychologists and lawyers.

Dr. Carstairs is highly experienced in preparing court reports in civil, criminal and family cases. Her particular areas of expertise are the assessment of personality functioning and investigation of complex fraud and personal injury cases where there is reason to suspect exaggeration and/or malingering. In 2011, she gained diplomat status with the American Board of Assessment Psychology with a speciality in forensic assessment.

Dr. Carstairs also continues to research into psychological testing and she regularly teaches other psychologists on the use of psychometric methods for assessment of intellectual and emotional functioning. She is in training in psychoanalysis with The Site for Contemporary Psychoanalysis from January 2013 and she maintains a small caseload of patients in long term psychoanalytic treatment.

Associates of Carstairs Psychological Associates are fully qualified, senior psychologists. Each member of the team holds a doctorate, providing them with a thorough understanding of the scientific principles upon which their practice is based. All members of the practice are registered by the Health & Care Professions Council and chartered by the British Psychological Society.

The most senior associate, Dr. Sarah Birch, qualified in Psychology from the University of Nottingham. She also holds a qualification in Research Methods & Psychological Assessment from the University of Surrey for which she obtained a distinction and a Postgraduate Diploma in Systemic Practice with Families & Couples for which she obtained a merit.
