Ian Black & Associates Limited is a long established firm of Costs Lawyers.

The firm has an excellent reputation for the quality of the bills of costs produced and understands the importance of attention to detail and the need to include clear and persuasive arguments in support of the Solicitor’s costs.

The firm’s workload comprises personal injury work, large corporate claims, publicly funded private law family and public law child care work and many other types of work, including Court of Protection, Clinical Negligence, Forced Marriage Protection cases, Employment and Breach of Contract cases.  The firm has demonstrated a thorough knowledge and a grasp of the Legal Services Commission’s Standard Fee Regimes in both private and public law family cases and has considerable experience of drafting High Costs Case Plans.  The firm also prepares Points of Dispute, Replies to Points of Dispute, costs-related statements and Skeleton Arguments, conducts costs negotiations and attends Detailed Assessment Hearings on behalf of both paying and receiving parties.

The firm has also embraced the new Costs Budgeting regime, preparing a considerable number of Costs Budgets for our Clients and attending Costs Case Management Conferences.

The firm was one of the first in the country to deal with the Legal Aid Agency’s new online billing through the Client and Case Management System and has provided advice to other Costs Lawyers as to the use of the system and the billing process.  We routinely prepare bills of costs online and have become experts in this particular area, dealing with all of the difficulties that have been presented by the CCMS billing system.

Ian Black is a longstanding member of the Association of Costs Lawyers, qualifying as an Associate of the Association of Law Costs Draftsmen in January 2001, a Fellow of the Association in January 2003 and a Costs Lawyer in April 2009.

Ian Black & Associates Limited comprises an experienced and capable team, committed to meeting the costs and bill drafting needs of the firms’ Clients, many of whom have forwarded work to the firm since its inception in 1995.

The firm is committed to assisting its Clients and continuing to meet all of their costs-related requirements at this time of considerable change across the costs landscape and undergoes a programme of continuous professional development as well as regular updates on costs law and procedure in order to ensure that all work produced is of the highest standard possible.
