Civil partnerships ruling

The government was urged to extend civil partnerships to couples of the opposite sex after the Supreme Court ruled in Steinfeld and Keidan v Secretary of State for International Development that the current restriction to same-sex couples was incompatible with the European Convention on Human Rights.

Land charges live

HM Land Registry’s local land charge database will begin to go live from 11 July. The first local authority local land charges data to be available will be Warwick District Council’s.

Advertisements for vacancies at MoJ bodies in Wales, including for judges and magistrates, will appear bilingually and in Welsh language publications under a new scheme approved by the Welsh Language Commissioner.

Strike-off for bogus CV

A solicitor who made false claims in her CV was struck off. Tania Ruby Bains, admitted in 2015, made ‘deliberate, calculated and repeated’ embellishments to her CV and in a training contract application, the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal found.
