An IT worker formerly employed at top-50 firm Fieldfisher has been barred from working with the profession following a conviction for assault.

Varun Krishnakuma was convicted at the Old Bailey last year of sexual assault on a female at a Christmas party and jailed for 12 months. He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £100 and register with the police under section 92 of the Sexual Offence Act 2003 for 10 years.

In a decision announced yesterday, the Solicitors Regulation Authority revealed that it has found it undesirable for Krishnakumar to be involved in a legal practice. An order made under section 43 of the Solicitors Act 1974 bars him from employment or remuneration by a solicitor, employee of a solicitor or recognised body except with the Law Society’s permission.
