Thank you, Richard. But should every case involving a compensation order have a tarrif under which there is no release until that payment is made and the judge should order accordingly whether or not such an order is applied for? I was horrified to learn in the week that that postman wrongly convicted of rape was kept in for 13, yes thirteen, years, that is six more than his seven year sentence, merely because he refused to acknowledge his guilt. I knew that was the case for early release on parole, but not that it applied generally.

And, AND, it seems we can find £150,000 in criminal legal aid for Mark Bridger, the murderer of April Jones, to appeal against his whole of life sentence. It's just criminal. We in West Wales are outraged. I hope those who represent him hold their heads down in shame. Well there would be a chance perhaps if they had any such shame, but acting on such instructions I am not sure they can have.
