No legal system is ever perfect or 100% free of risk to the innocent; to deny the significance of hanging with reference to the odd miscarriage of justice therefore is rather feeble.

The reason hanging should not be reintroduced is that it risks being used as a "bread and circuses" way of glossing over the inadequacies of our legal system.

Our legal system is inadequate because our educational system is inadequate insofar as it does not prepare the young for a respectable, decent life regardless of academic ability and social background; rather it focuses on the bright lights and abandons everyone else to their own devices.

The legal system then is left to pick up the pieces with piecemeal measures founded on knee jerk responses and blue rinse pandering.

We can never, ever entertain hanging as a sentencing measure unless and until we have:

1) an adequate educational program and
2) a legal system that does not treat every criminal case so individually that there is no perceived relationship betwixt crime and punishment: a dangerous position especially where an unchecked immigration policy is forcing people together who have very different views as to what justice should be (hence the rioting, revenge killings, ritual scarring among girls at schools and so on)
