Of the 27,000+ people who began publicly–funded family mediation in 2012/13, over two-thirds went on to reach agreement. I wonder if Ms Stowe quotes this statistic in her options meetings? Family mediation might not be the most attractive option but that is to miss the point. Unless a private client has £5,000 to £10,000 to pay a family lawyer to negotiate a settlement on their behalf, legal advice & drafting in support of mediation is about the only full service option available. Could it be growing the market for dispute resolution below £5,000 is the way to boost numbers exploring mediation?
