Forgive me for saying this, but the arguments over legal aid read a lot more like the reactionary mouse view in the novella "Who moved my cheese?" and a lot less like the Rebellion in the Star Wars saga.
My late father, criminal legal aid counsel of Rumpole-ian leanings, was of the view some ten years or more ago that an over dependency by the profession on the bottomless availability of legal aid funding was unsustainable.
And let's not forget how many business models and counsel were milking the more generous legal aid environment: cracking trials still ringing bells?
If as a specialist in say: probate or conveyancing I find that my clients are no longer prepared to accept an hourly rate charging model, what do I do?
Go out on strike and demand government intervention to protect my livelihood?
No, I reassess my business model and retool the machine to accommodate the new market.
That's what you're going to have to do...live with it.
