Anonymous 10.37am: I am a current member of the profession, still on the roll of solicitors - which is the reason why I get sent the LSG, so put up your fainting fan and live with it.

Steve: 30 years (oooh, impressive) where?"...my part of LONDON"....exactly!

Believe the hype Steve, there IS a world of legal practice outside of "that there" London, outside of the Home Counties even.

Maybe in London a criminal legal aid practitioner will find it hard to cover his mortgage on his 1000 year old cottage in St Mary Mead but, in the provinces, Criminal Legal Aid has, until recently, supported entire firms, been the subject of intense financial gearing, rivaled company commercial departments in yield and generated prosperous firms devoted entirely to criminal legal aid work.

If the cheese has moved from London: take a deep breath, flog the cottage and leave (rumors of feral bands of second rate solicitors roaming the land above Watford are not to be believed).

There's no tea and sympathy because its about time that someone other than a commercial property specialist, conveyancer or a probate lawyer got it in the neck.
