If I wasn't running my own firm I would have given up long ago. I can only keep going whilst trying to look after three children because my husband is also a partner in the firm .between us we can just about cover the school runs. For those women without our flexibility it becomes an impossible nightmare. It would help of course if men's employers didn't always assume that the little wife would take time off to look after sick kids. In our firm if any woman wants time off to care for sick children then this is on the basis that her husband takes the next day off. And she comes to work. I have made it clear that their husbands employer is not more important than my business. If all employers insisted on this equal split in respect of child care then women wouldn't be under so much pressure that they feel that they can no longer cope and so give up.
