The best thing that can be done in the long term is to make sure Labour is never allowed back anywhere near government ever again. These cuts are necessary because of Blair and Brown's profligate spending and declaration of two wars, one at least of which was criminally illegal. The deficit has, it appears, been cleared. The debt must now be paid off, too. Until it is the cuts must take effect.

It is hard, very hard.

Here in Wales education (the three R's in particular) have slipped badly, hospitals are full to bursting and NHS trusts broke, the ambulance service is overstretched, coastal defences have been breached and are in need of urgent repair, the coast guard service has been cut, Air Sea Rescue has been reduced, roads and railways are in urgent need of maintenance, steelworks are closing, Dept of work and Pensions offices are closing, police services are underfunded, courts, especially county courts, are having to close. The financial state Labour left this country in is nothing less than disasterous.

The coalition is not cutting for the sake of it. It has to be done to balance the books. The reckless spending which went on between 1997 and 2010 must never be allowed to happen again.
