Woah. All I can say to that is that I sincerely hope you're not a Criminal lawyer. The upholding of human rights is an integral part of our national culture, despite the current governments' attempts to curtail these rights and should be for all nations.

In my experience as a female solicitor, lawyers seem to disregard human rights-based law within their own practices as much or more than non-law firms. Example questions I've been asked in interviews at law firms: I see you're engaged - when are you planning to get married? When do you think you'll have children?

There are many firms continuing to flout human rights legislation in terms of, for example, the gender pay gap, presenteeism, discrimination against minorities, penalising working parents and the glass ceiling remains firmly in place for women. Firms which even have Employment Law departments don't seem to meet their obligations. I receive less pay and less opportunities for career progression than my male counterparts, for no obvious reason other than the fact that I am a woman.

It may be irritating to firms to have to undertake training in these areas but it appears essential.
