As a person who found themselves taken into custody for no reason, I realise the power of the police to use their extraordinary powers of arrest and imprisonment to identify and persecute members of the public who for one reason or another have upset them or do not show them the respect which they no longer deserve vis the Mitchell affair, the corruption report gone missing, the Hillsboro deaths et al. The Police Federation defend their members from any & all claims of Police abuse and if the cost of suing the police is to be made insurmountable then their behaviour and attitude to the general public will get even worse.
