Well at last the judiciary have woken up. The Sole Practitioners Group working party warned as long ago as 1996 that cutbacks in legal aid were going to lead to more LiP's, the cases would take longer to resolve, the courts would become clogged up and the judiciary would have to take on work that we would have done. I know the warning was given because I was on the working party. Since then, the warning has been repeated time and again. Here we are Sir John Thomas - we have arrived!! The difficulties that the judiciary now find themselves in, were entirely foreseeable. If others had listened to the warnings we gave so long ago, this situation could have been avoided.
